Research activity connecting Civil Engineering to Geophysics

17 febbraio 2023

ENSER took part in the recent conference GNGTS – National Group of Geophysics of the Solid Earth held on February 9 in Bologna to present the results of the study "Resonance versus shape of sedimentary basins" co-authored with Professor Silvia Castellaro from the Physics and Astronomy Department of the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna.

The study shows how to get information on the geometric and mechanical characteristics of alluvial deposits (sedimentary basins and valleys) from surface microtremor measurements, when the surface wave HVSR method is inadequate. The approach relies on the analysis of the individual (H and V) spectra rather than on their ratio (H/V).

A copy of the work published in the Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America (https://doi.org/10.1785/0120210277) is available upon request at ingegneria@enser.it.
