Execution of static and seismic safety assessment of 18 overhead water reservoirs for urban water supply in the province of Milan (Italy) built with various structural typologies (e.g. reinforced concrete spatial frames, masonry towers).
18 overhead water reservoirs for urban water supply in the province of Milan require static and seismic safety verification. Along with the execution of specific surveys, ENSER has carried out the Preliminary Design of possible interventions to reduce the seismic hazard of the structures. The reservoirs were originally designed and built over a wide period of time, ranging from the years 1910s (e.g. the torri littorie of Nerviano, Corbetta and Novate Milanese) to the early years 2000s when they were conceived applying the reinforced concrete “spatial frame” or the tower concept, and reaching heights up to 50m. The storage capacity of the reservoirs range between 100 and 1000 m3.
